Garden Gates
Your choice of garden gates can be an important one. After all, you want your garden gate to blend in with our surroundings rather than stick out like a sore thumb. And by blending in, that does not mean that it cannot be distinctive. It just means that you don’t want to put up aluminum garden gates if you have an English garden which requires a more delicate, aesthetic touch.
Let’s take a look at a few scenarios to determine the appropriate garden gates for each one:
1. A garden surrounded by brick walls, similar to a courtyard – A garden area such as this could get away with a few different types of garden gates. For instance, a wrought iron garden gate would work well if the brick walls were dark or weathered looking.
If the opening in the brick garden wall had an archway, you could even get away with any one of many wooden garden gates that would suit the style of the garden. For instance, if your garden is rather rustic, you might choose a weathered pine or cedar with a special stain finish.
2. A garden surrounded by a small white picket fence – Depending on the shape of these pickets and whether they are scalloped between the fence posts, you will likely be looking at different types of wood garden gates. Of course, these garden gates will likely be made of the same picket fence materials as the fence itself so that everything matches.
3. A whimsical garden complete with fanciful garden art like fairies or gnomes – When it comes to a fanciful garden, you need something equally fanciful for your garden gate. How about a garden gate from metal art work? Garden art gates with pretty murals or designs on them are good too.
4. A garden housed behind a metal fence – It depends on the type of metal fence you have as to what metal garden gate you should get. If your fence is the black wrought iron material, how about a metal garden gate with designs like scrollwork? Iron garden gates painted in the same color as the fence would work too.
5. An Asian inspired garden – If you have an Asian inspired garden, bamboo cedar garden gates would fit in wonderfully with the overall feel and theme of the space. In certain instances, an iron garden gate could work as well.
6. A functional garden – Growing food in your garden makes it more functional. However, that does not mean that your garden gates have to be ugly or unappealing. How about lightweight decorative garden gates that lend a touch of personality to your functional garden?
Of course, when you have an unusual garden space, sometimes, a custom garden gate might be the best way to go. Whether you order one yourself or take the time to make it, a custom option can be a smart move. Look to garden gates to not only protect your natural investment, but to also lend a special touch to your space.
