Backyard Games
Do you remember way back when telling your parents at sunrise that you would see them in time for dinner and then just take off with your friends for the day? Many of us heading toward middle age have done this in our youth. However, that innocence is gone and not safe for our children. That is why backyard games are so important.
Back yard games serve several purposes. First, they provide a safe active outlet for your children. Instead of sitting in front of their favorite gaming system or their computer, they can get active with you and their friends with backyard games. Sure, they may grumble at first … what kid doesn’t? However, it doesn’t take them long to come around. They then start asking you what you want to play. So what types of backyard games are there? Read on for a few ideas:
1. Backyard basketball game – If you have a concrete slab, then go out and get a basketball and a basketball goal. A friendly backyard basketball game of Around the World or Horse is always fun.
2. Backyard cricket games – The backyard cricket game will not necessarily resemble the real deal. The rules, equipment and even forming teams is improvised. For instance, the ball and wicket may be improvised with a tennis ball and a tree stump or some other large object.
3. Backyard football game – Football is always a popular sport. And if you go light on the tackling (perhaps play flag football) then the girls can play too.
4. Backyard baseball games – This game is great if you have a large yard. However, if you have any homes with windows that face your back yard, using real baseballs or softballs may be a problem. Improvise using Nerf products or some other softer objects.
5. Giant backyard games – These oversized games are similar to ones you’ve played in the family room. Checkers, Jenga and more become life size and a lot more challenging for all ages.
6. Backyard bean bag game – One of the most popular bean bag games involves pitching your small bean bags into various holes in a back board. Depending on the size of the holes, this can be quite challenging. There are a number of games that use bean bags. You could even create your own.
Backyard games can be great family time. One of best places to pick up backyard games is a mass discount retail store. For example, Wal-Mart does sell backyard games like volleyball, croquet and more. Backyard sports games are most popular. Horseshoes and tetherball are other popular options. Of course another game to play is backyard skateboarding. You could create a few of your own ramps and get rolling. There is no limit to your imagination as to the backyard games you play. You just may show your kids through actions rather than words how much backyard games could mean to the whole family dynamic.
